Arithmetic is where template repetition is most visible, because the structures are mathematical and therefore easy to name. A handful of setups account for a large share of what appears, and each has a recognisable shape that survives changes in the numbers.

  • Markup followed by discount — an article marked above cost price, then discounted, asking for profit or loss percentage. The chaining is the trap; candidates who memorised a single formula apply it to the wrong base.
  • Successive percentage change — a quantity increased then decreased, or two consecutive changes, where adding the percentages gives the wrong answer.
  • Average of consecutive numbers — usually faster to write the sequence out than to apply a formula.

Indian polity and the Constitution is a consistent heavyweight, with fundamental rights, directive principles, the structure of Parliament, constitutional bodies and important articles all recurring. Modern Indian history and the freedom struggle is similarly dependable, favouring movements, sessions, and prominent figures over fine chronological detail. General science at Class 6 to 10 level returns every cycle, with human biology, common diseases and deficiencies, basic physics phenomena, and everyday chemistry appearing most often. The practical use of knowing this territory is exclusion as much as inclusion. Vocabulary questions — synonyms, antonyms, one word substitution, idioms and phrases — repeat at the level of word frequency. How to Turn Pattern Recognition Into Marks

Reading a list of templates changes nothing on its own. The conversion step is deliberate: as you work through past shifts, name the template for each question before solving it, and keep a running tally of which templates you failed to recognise quickly. That tally is more useful than a score, because it points directly at the exposure gaps that cost you time.

After three or four papers the tally usually collapses to a short list of templates that consistently slow you down, and those become your drilling targets.
